||The Bioinformatics team provides bioinformatics support for all of the research programs in the institute. This includes setting up and maintaining automated bioinformatics analysis pipelines, providing infrastructure support, providing a bioinformatics helpdesk facility, developing software tools to address new bioinformatics questions and managing computing cluster and cloud computing environments. The team aims to provide a robust bioinformatics foundation, allowing researchers to focus on their world leading science.|

The Bioinformatics team works to maintain and develop bioinformatics resources in support of world leading food genomics research programmes. We work with huge genomic datasets, performing bioinformatics analysis using cloud computing and compute clusters and developing novel software methods to push the boundaries of research.
We currently have three open positions on different projects including software development, cloud computing, managing Big Data, building pipelines using Galaxy, bioinformatics data analysis and gut microbiome bioinformatics. One of these posts will have a focus towards bioinformatics, one will have a focus towards software development and one will focus on bioinformatics for the Gut Microbes and Health research programme.
We offer the chance to work with world leading, cutting edge technologies both in IT and computational biology and give you the opportunity to broaden your skills using open source technologies within a bioinformatics context. You will gain experience of working with Big Data and cloud computing, supporting up to 150 world class food science researchers and have the opportunity to work with researchers on publishing new methodologies.
The ideal candidate:
Ideal candidates will have a degree in computing, computational biology, bioinformatics or a related computational subject, a strong proficiency in Linux, and an ability to program in at least one programming language to an advanced level. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as the post will involve working with staff across the Institute.
Salary on appointment for the software development post will be £39,150 - £47,850 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. Salary on appointment for the two bioinformatics posts will be £31,250 - £38,100 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

About the Gut Microbes and Health Programme
The Gut Microbes and Health programme aims to obtain mechanistic knowledge on the role of the gut microbiome during normal healthy ageing in order to develop strategies that will improve lifelong health and wellbeing. Our programme is organised into three complementary themes, and is underpinned by two studies of very young (pregnancy and early life) and ageing/elderly East Anglia-based populations that form the basis for coordinated investigations addressing the mechanistic basis of microbiome-host interactions in health. Next generation sequencing, and bioinformatic/computational approaches, complemented by ongoing lab based studies, will be used to probe the complexity of the relationship between the gut microbiome and host.
